KidFlix Announces Schedule – 43 movies in 4 days

TAMPA, FL- (May 20, 2004) – KidFlix Florida International Children’s Film Festival presented by the St. Petersburg Times announces festival program schedule for June 17 - 20, 2004 at Centro Ybor Muvico in Tampa. The program is now available at www.kidflixflorida.com.

Featuring 43 films, representing 7 countries in 4 days, KidFlix will provide a forum for parents and children of all ages to celebrate the art of cinema and to showcase the role that films play in the artistic and educational development of the youth today. KidFlix is dedicated to offering a diverse lineup of films from around the world, including animation, documentaries, feature films and student-made films. Film-related workshops will also be available to all Festival passport holders.

This year, KidFlix has also partnered with KIDS FIRST! to provide quality children’s. KIDS FIRST!, is an initiative part of the Coalition for Quality Children's Media, a national, not-for-profit, non-religious with a mission to: 1) Teach children critical viewing skills that enable them to make their own good media choices. 2) To increase the visibility and availability of quality children's programs. KIDS FIRST! evaluates, rates, and endorses children's feature films, videotapes, DVDs, audio recordings, software, and television using a volunteer, community-based jury comprising child development professionals, teachers, librarians, and parents as well as children of diverse geographic, socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds.

Kid City, the Children's Museum of Tampa, is the exclusive sales outlet for the KidFlix festival passports with all proceeds benefiting museum. Festival Passports are $20 for adults (18 and over) and $15 for children. Festival Passports will be sold during Kid City museum hours, which are Monday: 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m, Tuesday through Friday: 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m, Saturday 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m and Sunday noon to 5:00 p.m. Sales for individual films can be purchased at any Muvico Theater or online at www.muvico.com.

Festival passports holders will have unlimited access to the feature films and shorts programs during the entire festival as well as the workshops, excluding the Opening Night Party on June 16th. As the festival benefactor Kid City will play host to the opening night party, which will serve as a fundraiser for the museum. Kid City, the Children's Museum of Tampa, is dedicated to TLC. The focus of TLC is (T) toddlers to teens, (L) literacy and (C) cultural diversity is at the heart of The Children's Museum's mission. As Kid City, The Children's Museum of Tampa continues to develop plans to build a new, indoor, world-class children's museum, the expanding vision of TLC comes to light. The new children's museum will host at least 10 large separate exhibits in the areas of music, reading, live television production, nature, sports, adoption, children with disabilities, civics, and careers. The vision and mission of Kid City is to inspire children and families by creating learning opportunities.

Last year’s festival included a Florida Filmmakers showcase along with colorful shorts programs such as "Kids in the Director’s Chair", "Playing Well With Others", "Moms, Dads and Other Monsters" as well as feature-length films from Israel, Iceland, Brazil, England, Honduras, Canada and the Netherlands.
