In response to the growing number of adult Americans suffering from heartburn and acid reflux (or Gastroesophageal reflux), Melitta USA announces a new ground coffee, Melitta Mild Melitta Introduces Less Acidic Coffee Clearwater, FL (March 16, 2004) – In response to the growing number of adult Americans suffering from heartburn and acid reflux (or Gastroesophageal reflux), Melitta USA announces a new ground coffee, Melitta Mild. This new addition to the Melitta brand offers coffee drinkers a product that is 45 percent less acidic and which contains 40 percent less caffeine. Acid reflux is described as a condition where gastric juices containing acid travel back from the stomach into the esophagus. Coffee, along with citrus fruit juices, tea and soft drinks can create an inflamed lower esophagus. The new Melitta Mild Coffee allows coffee lovers that suffer from acid reflux the ability to enjoy gourmet coffee with reduced levels of acidity found in regular coffees. "After thorough research and testing, we have finally found the perfect combination for coffee lovers with sensitive stomachs. Combining fine gourmet coffee flavor with reduced levels of acidity and caffeine, our new product has been well received", says Chris Hillman, Director of Coffee Marketing. "Rolling out Melitta Mild in Florida is the perfect strategy due, in part, to the aging population of the state. We hope to eventually have this new product available to all Americans who suffer from acid reflux or who simply prefer a milder coffee". Melitta Mild Coffee is currently offered throughout supermarkets across the state of Florida including Albertsons, Winn Dixie and other supermarkets in Florida. The U.S. headquarters for Melitta is located in Clearwater, Florida and is part of the privately held Melitta Group in Minden, Germany. Melitta's North American manufacturing operations are geographically dispersed. All coffee roasting and packaging is done in Cherry Hill, New Jersey. Filter paper and non electric coffeemaking systems are manufactured in Clearwater, Florida. Melitta electrics and accessories are manufactured, marketed and distributed under a licensing agreement with Salton.
