Best-Selling Author Speaks at Ophelia Project Luncheon

TAMPA, Fl- (February 20, 2004) – Best-selling author, Mary Pipher, PhD will be speaking at The Ophelia Project of Tampa Bay annual benefit luncheon and coffee on Friday, March 5, 2004 at the A la Carte Pavilion in Tampa.

Dr. Pipher is the best-selling author of six books, including Reviving Ophelia, and will be speaking at two separate Ophelia Project events on March 5th. At the Ophelia’s Community Education Coffee from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m, Dr. Pipher will be speaking on the topic of "Strengthening Young Families: Parenting Tips to Navigate Today’s Toxic Culture." Dr. Pipher will discuss the impact of consumer-oriented and media saturated culture on youth, parents and family. Dr. Pipher will examine what is going on with children today and give parents ideas on how to help. The cost for the coffee is $25 per person - reservations required.

At Ophelia’s Annual Benefit Luncheon sponsored by AmSouth Bank, Dr. Pipher addresses the topic "Hunger Pains: Staying Healthy in an Appearance-Obsessed Society". Focussing on society’s preoccupation with appearance and the world beyond waistline measurements, Pipher will recommend strategies for personal and cultural change and creating healthy attitudes towards eating and body image. Registration begins at 11:30 a.m, with the program beginning promptly at noon. The cost for the lunch is $50 per person or $1,000 a patron table - reservations required.
